Starting at one and counting forward, how long would it take you to count to one billion?
That's 1,000,000,000
Iowa now has a budget deficit of over one billion dollars and the federal government just announced yesterday that our annual budget deficit has surpassed the one trillion dollar thresh hold.
That's 1,000,000,000,000
Where's the outrage? What sane person would ever assume that business as usual can continue as it pertains to the way we govern? Drastic, radical changes are going to be required before this fiscal house of cards comes crashing down upon us and our children.
To answer your question, it would take you 31 years, 251 days, 7 hours, 46 minutes, and 39 seconds to count to 1 billion.
Take that times one thousand and if you're like me, there's a headache coming on fast when you consider the answer and the scale of our federal deficit spending!
Now you may think today's math trivia is a juvenile way to look at fiscal policy, but consider then just how long it will take our children to pay off this eye popping debt.
This is our legacy. That some day they will write about us and they won't be using the term: "Our greatest generation," as we did for those who preceded us.
Something to think about today...
