This is what happens when we translate ANGER into ACTION!

Brown was holding two bibles during his swearing in ceremony.  One belonging to each of his daughters. Senate Leader Harry Reid acknowledged that the required paperwork had been received by the senate and Vice President Joe Biden proceded to administer the oath of office while Paul Kirk (temporarily replacing Ted Kennedy before the election) and John F. Kerry observed.

I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter: So help me God.

Now back to my original point.  Certainly there is anger amongst the electorate right now.  It might be the best descriptor of the Tea Party movement. Certainly, they espouse compliance to our constitution and that discourse never hurts the Republic.  But anger is the catylst that moved "millions" to the Washington Mall and to town hall meetings and rallys all throughout the past year.  That's where the Tea Party moved past the GOP into the threshold of success.  They translated emotion into action.

The GOP is only going to succeed if we adopt a bias for ACTION and that's not found in a policy or a platform...it's only found when the grass-roots stands up and demands a voice in government.  If you don't offer your voice to this process, then at best, we will offer muted resistence and continue to suffer at the hands of a government that tips towards socialism every day.

If you do nothing and fail to particpate, you owe me no apology.  But I can't imagine how we'll find the words to apologize to our children and grandchildren.  See the look on their faces and the tears in their eyes. One day in the near future, we will be confronted with our failure to preserve the legacy that had been successfully passed on for generations since our founding.

Then to our dismay and disgrace, the city on the hill....shines no more.

Like a Thief In the Night...

While we slept amidst the distractions of the days preceding Christmas, our constitutional rights were stolen away by executive order. (EO 12425)

Let's start close to home: Remember how our own Iowa legislature waited until the last days of session last spring and then, conducted their most critical votes of the year under the cover of darkness in the wee hours of the morning?

If you would like to refresh yourself, the "Morning Roost" from last April 27th will allow you to time travel back to the Monday morning just after "sine die" was uttered and the smoke cleared from the state assembly.

Democrats in Iowa and Washington D.C. have found a strategy that seems to work and by all appearances, they are sticking with it until we can confront and "blunt" this tactic.

The tragic health care legislation was passed in the run up to Christmas in the very same way.  Overnight debates coupled with 7 a.m. roll call votes.  Trust me, democracy and sleep deprivation are not compatible.

Back to EO 12424.  If you attempted to read and digest this language, congratulations.  It's never easy to understand these bills at first glance.  It's a lot like legislative "beef jerky."  You need to 'chew on it' before it become digestible.

What does this amended order mean to you and me?

In short, President Obama just granted full authority...and immunity to INTERPOL, a global law enforcement agency to conduct operations, (law enforcement and investigative activities) here in the United States with full independence from any oversight, including the FBI, DOJ, the CIA and local law enforcement agencies.

Andy McCarthy writes in The Corner (National Review Online) a powerful question:

"Why would we elevate an international police force above American law? Why would we immunize an international police force from the limitations that constrain the FBI and other American law-enforcement agencies?

Why is it suddenly necessary to have, within the Justice Department, a repository for stashing government files which, therefore, will be beyond the ability of Congress, American law-enforcement, the media, and the American people to scrutinize?"

Anthony Martin from the Indianapolis Examiner, (U.S. placed under international police-state) writes his own shocking conclusion:

"A coup is underway in the United States of America, the goal of which is to establish complete, unquestioned authority over the citizens--a 'fundamental change' to the United States where citizens have no legal recourse against an authoritarian central government."

During the midst of the holidays, in the middle of the night.  Is this good government? 

The future ramifications of this order are numerous and tragic.  I fear the worst is ahead.

Republicans Need "A New Deal"

If I were availed the required time and creativity to pen a novel, I'd write a political thriller that would make Dan Brown proud.  Filled with drama, conspiracy and yet, in this context...a believable plot that might just inspire "A New Deal" that the Republican party would embrace.

I would write about the political equivalent of Pearl Harbor.  This time however, it's the American people who rise up en masse and deliver a "surprise attack" upon our own "political establishment." Now all you NRA types who just bolted towards the gun safe, you can sit back down, I'm not advocating tyranny. The beauty of our government is we have perfected our ability to peacefully transfer power using ballots instead of bullets. 

The ballot becomes the most potent weapon in our countries arsenal and the citizenry discovers this power and uses the voice of "We the people" to radically transform the political landscape.

Reid, Pelosi, Boxer, Rangel, Schumer, Frank, Waters all gone in the first wave of voter discontent.  Much like the attack on Pearl Harbor 68 years ago, there will then be a second wave, albeit a "second chance" for our elected officials to "hear the will of the people" and respond accordingly. Should the GOP be trusted again to lead, it will be our last chance to "get it right" with the American electorate.  Our once massive "plank" is scrapped and smartly refined to a list of 10 principles that fits in your pocket and is readily memorized not because it's short, but because it's meaningful.

The voters hold all elected officials to a new purity test: 

• Do what you said you would do
• Follow the United States Constitution Implicitly
• Pass a balanced budget including debt repayment

If the Republican party fails to comport itself in strict accordance to constitutional principles, the GOP may find itself irrelevant and as a consequence; a grand old party no more.

So, where do we start?

With the constitution of course.  Specifically, the 10th amendment:

The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.

I propose the four key words are; "or to the people."  This is where WE take back our government.

In 1788, James Madison (widely regarded as the father of our constitution) began his work on the Federalist Papers and published The Federalist #45.

"The powers delegated by the proposed Constitution to the federal government, are few and defined. Those which are to remain in the State governments are numerous and indefinite. The former will be exercised principally on external objects, as war, peace, negotiation, and foreign commerce; with which last the power of taxation will, for the most part, be connected. The powers reserved to the several States will extend to all the objects which, in the ordinary course of affairs, concern the lives, liberties, and properties of the people, and the internal order, improvement, and prosperity of the State."

From this understanding, we realize that states should be "feeding" the federal government (thus exercising restraint and control) as opposed to the "choke-hold" we now face with states becoming dependent for survival at the tit of the Federal government. (Hat trick to Senator Grassley)

Madison convinced many of our founding fathers that a federal government with too much power would likely become tyrannical. To protect us from this danger, checks and balances were adopted to limit the federal government’s power.

The states would reign sovereign and this would thereby restrain the voice of the minority in Washington and thusly preserve and protect the voice of the people.
